Supplied USB extension cable helps, but the combo is cumbersome to carry around. No keychain attachment, but I doubt anyone would want to carry this device in their pocket anyway, especially with the cable; a purse, maybe. 2) The security unlock feature failed immediately ie, after entering my security lock code in duplicate. As a result all my data was rendered inaccessible. Bottom line: Item returned for a refund. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: CORSAIR 4GB Padlock USB 2.0 Flash Drive - CMFUSBPADLOCK-4GB (Personal Computers) If you need to use your USB storage in multiple environments this is the BEST solution.
We have locked down windows PCs where we cannot load or run any unauthorized software. All other protected USB devices use software to protect their devices. This device uses the hardware keyboard. That means this device works when all other protected USB storage does not. It also works cross-platform, between Windows, Macintoshes, and unix/linux PCs. It's the only protected USB storage that does that! Packaging is clunky, but hopefully they'll sell enough to do a second generation. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: CORSAIR 4GB Padlock USB 2.0 Flash Drive - CMFUSBPADLOCK-4GB (Personal Computers) All tech items have good qualities and not-so-good qualities. This Corsair "padlock" USB drive has several good features: excellent security (as compared with run-of-the-mill USB drives), good tactile feedback on keypad, true cross-platform support, and no need to install special drivers. But there are also some design challenges: inconveniently large physical size (don't try to keep this in your jeans pocket, on your keychain, or on a lanyard; must use included USB extension cable to avoid blocking other USB ports), pointy corners (really, not at all a comfortable device to keep on one's person), somewhat questionable build quality (physical keypad used to enter security combination seem vulnerable to fluids, dust/dirt, and degradation due to wear), and requires a battery to power the security...Read more |
