I purchased the 8GB Kingston Mini Fun USB drive to hold MP3 file songs. It will remain inserted into the USB slot of a Pioneer DEH-P5200HD car radio. It functions similar to having an iPod attached, but without the cords. Pioneer recommends against leaving a USB drive permanently attached, I assume because of the risk of damage. Therefore, I wanted a short drive to reduce the risk of it being hit accidentally. Additionally, the radio is mounted in the corner of an RV, so the exposure to being hit is minimal.
The drive comes from Kingston formated as FAT32, and I left it that way. I had no problems copying the files to the device. I have tested it out on the radio and have had no problems displaying, searching, or playing the music files.
The black cover is made of a soft silicone material that is approximately 5/16 of an inch thick and 15/16 of an inch long (black silicone portion only). The width of the black cover is approximately 3/4 of an inch. The...Read more

The Red Cap and Length Are a Problem,

If you don't care about the difficult cap, this tiny little drive seems to work perfectly (I use Macs). So if you need a jump drive to occasionally archive data and store it in a separate location, this is great. However, if you are using it for daily usage, it's so tiny that it's nearly impossible to slip into a USB port when adjacent USB cables are plugged in. And good luck getting the red cap to correctly fit into the black base when you want to plug this jump drive into a port.
If you need to use a jump drive on a daily basis, I'd get one of the Kingston drives that's all-in-one, where you don't need to worry about losing the cap and it's long enough that you can get it in and out of a tight space when there are surrounding cables plugged into the adjacent ports. I like Kingston drives and didn't think the small size and design would be a problem, but it is.

I've tried a few of these very tiny flash drives and had to return all of them until now. Kingston has made a solid product here - I'm impressed. I'm getting read speeds around 19mb and writes at about 9mb. That's very respectable. I know this looks like a leggo product and I honestly did not expect much, but I really like the design. It's silicone I think and the two pieces fit together perfectly. I've always tried to stay away from the thumb drives with the detachable covers but I still like this one. Sure, I'll probably lose the cap at some point but I think the design is very cool. It's no titanium drive - I love those and have a few. But, I needed a new one for a Recovery Disk for my macbook air (no cd drive) and for $9 I figured this would work.
It's very tiny - feels surprisingly rugged because of the silicone - and even if I lose the cap, it's light as a feather so who cares. I would buy another. The way the cap attaches to the drive on the back is very clever -...Read more
