Tiny form factor, 14.5 GB of storage & NO GOOD,

This review is from: Kingston DT109 16GB DataTraveler USB Flash Drive DT109K/16GBZ (Personal Computers)
Aesthetically, this device is pleasing. It only sticks out of the USB port about an inch, so it is almost 'portable'. I was a little disappointed when it only offered 14.5 GB of storage, since I have a 16GB Transcend flash drive that has 15.1 GB. At the price and form factor however, this is a pretty nice purchase. I haven't used it enough to make a very educated comment on the transfer speed but it seems average in that regard.
Edit:
After some light use, it became evident that this is a very slow drive; much slower than the aforementioned Transcend drive. I changed the format to NTFS from the original FAT32 and the performance doubled, but it is still slow. Can't say I recommend and drop the rating from 4 to 3 stars.
Second edit:
This thing is so slow I avoid using it unless I have an extra 20 minutes to wait for any kind of substantial file to write to it. It will start writing at about 25 mb/s and gradually slow down to 3.5 mb/s. This is...Read more

Be aware, flimsy & you may lost all your data,

This review is from: Kingston DT109 16GB DataTraveler USB Flash Drive DT109K/16GBZ (Personal Computers)
I have the 8GB version. I would give it a negative star if I could. After having this product on my keychain (with 1 car key & two house keys)for about 2 months, the white plastic part developed a crack two days ago. I thought to myself, this was just the housing & it should still be usable. Sure enough, it still can be used with no problem. However, I was out about doing some shopping today. When I got home, I noticed my drive had been lost. The black & white outter housing is still attached to my keychain, but actual drive (the metal part) was gone. Apparently, the white plastic part is so flimsy, the crack expanded & the drive fell out of the housing. I lost all my data. The worst part is, I don't know where it got lost and I don't know if it still can be used when someone finds it. I sure don't want anyone to access my data on the drive when they find it; but I have no way to know now. What a nightmare! I strongly advise anyone to stay away from this product.

Very small and very slow ...,

This flash drive is quite tiny, so small that you may easily lose it if you're not careful. It's about the size of half a pinky. Size aside, its performance is quite abysmal. The read speed appears to be compatible with other flash drives, but its write speed is the slowest among all my 16GB or 32GB drives. I tested with writing a large 2GB file to the Kingston device and it averages about 4.5MB/s. That compares very unfavorably with speeds of 5.5MB/s, 8.5MB/s, 10.1MB/s, and 13.9MB/s from, respectively, my Transcend, Lexar, Verbatim, and OCZ (the winner!) drives. I can't recommend this drive unless your sole criterion is cuteness.
