Product Description
With the LaCie iamaKey, inventive storage meets data protection. The key-shaped design is functional and memorable, and the protection that the LaCie iamaKey offers makes it extremely reliable. Best of all, with its large capacity, you can fit an enormous amount of data in a small flash drive. With the universal Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, iamaKey can be used with both PC and Macs. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 not only offers universal compatibility and cross-platform convenience, but features a hot-pluggable connection and high-speed transfer rates, and is Windows ReadyBoost compatible. With its eye-catching design, the iamaKey certainly stands out, but its connector (Gold SIP) is both water- and scratch-resistant, making it one of the most durable and thinnest USB keys on the market. Protective edges on the connectors ensure that you'll always insert the LaCie iamaKey properly, keeping it usable and safe.
Comment: Great usb drive, fits right on the key chain and disappears with the other keys. My only negative is that the plastic guard for the contacts fell off and got lost within a few days, which I fully expected. Key has ridges to help protect the contacts so I'm not worried about it, but that point could use some redesign.

Summary: Great Keychain Add On 2010-03-05
Comment: Normally, I hate Lacie hard drives because they always crashed on me. But this type of USB drive was a good choice for me. I wanted something that would hold a bunch of data with a fast transfer speed. I'm very satisfied so far. I like the fact that it hooks on and looks like a key. I only had trouble once with trying to get it right side up in my USB ports. Lets face it, USB ports should come with a "This Side Up" label on them. I also wish there was a sliding cover for the key. It just came with a cap that will never stay on, so I just leave it off. Overall, I've had it several weeks now, and so far I don't have any problems recommending it for someone who has trouble keeping their old USB drives on their key chain.

Summary: Finally, a flash drive I won't lose! 2010-02-21
Comment: I've stopped counting the number of flash drives I've lost, because they break off my keychain. I looked around forever for a drive with a sturdy way to attach it to a keyring, since the plastic you see on most drives is bound to break, in time. Finally, I saw this little guy. I was worried initially that it, too, was plastic, but it's not. It's also thinner than I was expecting; it's about half the thickness of a standard usb plug, since it eliminates the piece that goes around the actual usb connection. All in all, if you glanced quickly at my keys, you wouldn't know there was a flash drive on there.
I use the drive to move small files back and forth, mostly for work and school, so I don't have any complaints about the write speed. If I was moving lots of multimedia, it might be a different story. If this drive dies, I'll buy another just like it, because I know I won't run the risk of losing my data by actual physical loss, which in my experience is far more likely than loss due to failure. And, of course, I back up my data in more than one place.
I love this thing. My only complaint about the design is the small clear plastic cap that fits over the end: that fell off and got lost by the end of the first day, and believe me, friend, your experience will be no different. Losing the cap was almost a relief, since it was a pain to remove and replace, anyway. The contacts on the drive are well constructed, so I'm not really worried about damage to the contacts or to the drive, without the cap.
Yes, it costs more than other flash drives of the same size. But it's cool looking, well constructed, and you won't lose it!
